West Coast defender Harry Edwards has signed on with the Eagles for a further two seasons, with the 21-year-old's fresh deal keeping him in the West until the cessation of 2024.

At 6 foot 8 in the old, the Swan Districts product is seen as an integral pillar for the future of the club's defensive unit.

After making his debut during the Eagles' Round 9 win over Geelong in 2020, Edwards strung together a further 10 appearances in blue and gold last season, honing his craft under the watch of Jeremy McGovern, Tom Barass, Shannon Hurn and the recently retired Brad Sheppard.

After signing on the dotted line to continue on under head coach Adam Simpson, the fledgling backman couldn't contain his excitement.

“I’m really happy to have re-signed with the club,” Edwards told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“I love the boys, I love the club. I’m from here, so playing here is real good for me. I always wanted to stay here. To sign on until the end of 2024 is a real bonus.

And while being drafted to the club as a midfielder with the 18th pick of the 2018 AFL Draft, Edwards divulged that he had found his home down back.

“There’s great cohesion between the young boys, especially the backs," he continued.

"We have a great mix of young boys and older guys and we all get on really well."

Edwards also stressed that he held an understanding of what it takes to both play and stay at the level.

“This pre-season has been different to past years for me. Going into last year I hadn’t really played," he added.

"But to get 10 or 11 games last year I know the level that’s required and what I need to work on.

“All systems go, so it’s my first full pre-season.”

Edwards and the Eagles are currently fixtured to face Adelaide and Fremantle in pre-season clashes later this month before opening their season against Gold Coast in Round 1.

However, due to Western Australia's stringent border laws, these scheduled clashes remain likely to be altered between then and now.
