It's been another year of disappointment at Arden Street, as the Kangaroos have seemingly failed to make any major progress toward a potential finals campaign in the near future.
North Melbourne had an active 2024 trade period, targeting a trio of established veterans on the market, namely former Bulldog Caleb Daniel, Swans legend Luke Parker and Eagles key forward Jack Darling, in the hopes that their leadership would fasten the development of their budding young core.
However, that hasn't exactly happened, and while the likes of Harry Sheezel continue to dominate for the royal blue and white, there are certainly some key areas that need strengthening.
We take a look at five trade and free agency targets for North Melbourne to consider this year.
3Seamus Mitchell
There's been plenty of frustration from Roos fans at their lack of half-back options outside of Caleb Daniel, who has struggled to generate transition attacking opportunities and scoring chains from defensive 50 this season.
A perfect addition to that back-line mix could be Seamus Mitchell. With limited opportunities in the Hawks senior squad, Mitchell has starred at VFL level, failing to reach 20 disposals just once this season and posting a ridiculous stat line of 35 disposals and a goal in back-to-back weeks in rounds 9 and 10.
Another bonus of targeting Mitchell? It's likely he'll come for a cheap price, having played just four senior games for the Hawks this season.
When Mitchell is given a consistent AFL run, he presents as an exciting upgrade for the Roos down back, with his speed and defensive awareness being his strong suits.
Through 14 games in his 2023 rookie season, Mitchell averaged 2.4 rebound 50s, 4.7 marks and 261 metres gained per game and while he hasn't reached these heights in 14 games since, his VFL form could suggest he's not far from getting back to that level.
