Essendon again firm as one of the major players in the upcoming trade and free agency window, while their draft hand has them in a strong position to add more youth or be aggressive in the player movement space.

Holding a pair of picks that will likely sit in the first 10 selections, as well as their future first-round picks, the Bombers have the capital to be creative in looking to strengthen their list.

An injury crisis has also allowed Brad Scott and his team to get a solid understanding of the club's depth, which has shown some good signs this year.

Why wouldn't the Bombers look to get involved?

The Victorian club has been linked to the West Coast co-captain in the past, and now that he's available as a free agent, a play makes sense.

A contending club looms as a more likely landing spot for Allen, but if the Bombers can have a strong finish to the season and be competitive from a monetary standpoint, they could turn his head.

The benefit of being able to sign Allen at no trade cost is a big plus, but if the Eagles prepare to match free agency offers for their star forward, then the Bombers could be one of the few clubs with the picks to satisfy West Coast.
