Fans will get their first look at Tasmania's new VFL outfit next week when the Devils' state league side suits up to face Werribee for its opening game of 2026.

The practice match, which will be held at the neutral venue of RMIT Bundoora on Saturday, February 7, will be the first game for the Tasmanians since their addition to the competition.

The Devils will field a side in the VFL and VFLW ahead of the club's expected expansion into the top flight, slated for 2028.

Coached by ex-Richmond midfielder Jeromey Webberley, the Devils' first tune-up ahead of their maiden VFL campaign will come against 2024 premiers Werribee, which is entering a new era itself with Dan Lowther at the helm.

Tasmania has locked in its 49-player squad for the 2026 season, with ex-AFL talent in Robbie Fox, Jye Menzie, Caleb Mitchell, Geordie Payne and Hugh Dixon headlining the list.

The Devils have also signed highly-touted teenagers Rory Wright, Jack Miller and Lucas Wootton, as well as known state league talent in Jed Hagan and Nick Williams.

The matchup with Werribee is the only confirmed match so far in Tasmania's pre-season schedule, with the club's home and away campaign to commence the weekend of March 21-22.

The VFL fixture is yet to be confirmed, with the season to see 21 rounds played and all 22 clubs to feature in 18 games each.

Since the cessation of the 2025 season, the Devils and St Kilda have joined the competition, while the Northern Bullants did not have their license renewed.

St Kilda's first bout of the pre-season will take place against Port Melbourne at RSEA Park on February 20, while Brisbane and Gold Coast will venture outside of the VFL, taking on QAFL clubs Aspley and Palm Beach respectively in March.
