Just 16 Tasmanians are listed in the AFL for 2026, with that total down on previous seasons.
Eleven of the 18 clubs have at least one product of the Apple Isle on their list, with Richmond leading the way with four Tasmanians.
Since the end of the 2025 season, the AFL has bid farewell to a sizeable portion of its Tasmanian crop, with all of Liam Jones, Jimmy Webster, Jye Menzie, Robbie Fox, Geordie Payne and Arie Schoenmaker all leaving the league.
That leaves fewer than 20 Tasmanians on an AFL list, with Gold Coast draftee Avery Thomas the only fresh face.
The Devils weren't represented at last year's AFL Draft, making Thomas the sole National Draft selection since the quartet of Colby McKercher, Ryley Sanders, James Leake and Schoenmaker through the 2023 class.
The 2024 Mid-Season Draft saw Payne go first overall, with the North Launceston product managing three games for North Melbourne before being delisted.
RELATED: POTENTIAL TASMANIAN TRADE TARGETS
The start of the 2023 season had a total of 24 Tasmanians in the top flight, with only Andrew Phillips, Aaron Hall and Cameron Owen leaving at the end of that campaign.
While the coming draft crops possess promising Tasmanian talent, especially the timely 2027 class, the batch of current AFL players features a strong degree of ageing names.
All of Jeremy Howe, Brody Mihocek, Toby Nankervis, Jake Kolodjashnij, Alex Pearce and Lachie Weller are into the twilight of their careers, with mass change to the list set to come in the subsequent seasons.
The total number of Tasmanian AFL talent could hinder the Devils' list build ahead of the 2028 season, however the likes of McKercher, Sanders, Lachie Cowan, Rhyan Mansell, Sam Banks and Seth Campbell offer some promise for the future.
