Essendon utility Nik Cox has been cleared of suffering a major setback after being subbed out of Saturday's win over Richmond with a hamstring injury.

Cox was unable to see out the thrilling victory due to the ailment and was replaced by midfielder Elijah Tsatas at quarter time.

The 22-year-old underwent scans following the Dreamtime at the 'G match and has been cleared of major damage to his hamstring.

Essendon confirmed on Monday that scans showed no strain in Cox's hamstring, however the young Bomber will be required to undergo further fitness testing in the coming days.

"Essendon utility Nik Cox has been cleared of any major damage to his hamstring following Saturday's Dreamtime at the 'G," a club update read.

"After being subbed out at quarter-time, Cox had scans yesterday on his hamstring, which pleasingly showed no strain. The 22-year-old will be monitored through the week, but the club expects his symptoms to resolve quite quickly.

"Essendon will provide a further update in the club's injury report released [Tuesday] afternoon."

The Bombers will regain young forward Harrison Jones for this week's trip to the Gold Coast after the Essendon attacker served his one-game suspension for rough conduct.

Midfielder Will Setterfield is nearing a return from a knee injury, while the club has not declared the extent of Ben Hobbs' calf injury.

Hobbs was removed from Essendon's squad to face the Tigers last Friday due to a fresh setback, with Tsatas coming into the side in his place.

Essendon face the Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium this Sunday before a King's Birthday even clash with Carlton the following week. The Bombers are then scheduled for a Round 14 bye before returning to the field against West Coast on Sunday, June 23 at Marvel Stadium.
