Essendon has added much-needed experience to its strength and coaching group, announcing the signing of David Regan to its football program.

The announcement comes following an injury-riddled 2025 campaign that saw over 10 key players sidelined with various issues, including soft-tissue injuries.

The Bombers parted ways with Hal Marsden, who'd been with the club since the start of 2023.

Sean Murphy, who was the head of high performance at the Hangar, was also farewelled, putting an end to his six-year tenure.

Regan joins Essendon "with a wealth of experience from several elite sporting codes around Australia and the USA - including the AFL, NBA, MLB and the NFL - over the last 11 years", a statement from the club read.

He has spent time at Melbourne, including during the 2021 premiership triumph, as well as the Miami Dolphins (2014-'17), New York Nets and Brooklyn Nets.

"David's appointment is another really exciting one for us. He has a wide range of experience across different elite competitions, both here and in the US, and has a proven track record, which will only benefit our high-performance program more broadly," Essendon's GM of AFL Daniel McPherson said.

"Having seen how David operates first-hand from his time at the Demons, his ability to form strong relationships and bring great energy to the program to get the best out of players athletically has always stood out.

"We're looking forward to David starting with the Club – there's a lot of confidence that he'll slot in well alongside Mat (Inness) and continue our improvement on the high performance front."

Inness joins the Bombers following a two-year stint at West Coast that came after a dozen years at the Western Bulldogs in multiple roles.

Regan and Inness will commence their role at Essendon ahead of the AFL players returning to training in November.
