Collingwood president Eddie McGuire says his club will face off against Richmond to restart the 2020 AFL season.
There were talks that a Magpies-Demons clash on June 8 could reopen the card, but McGuire confirmed there was an โalternative programโ for the Queen's Birthday game, while the date is seemingly ambitious.
Collingwood and Richmond were set to face off in Round 2 in the AFL's original fixture prior to the shutdown.
Speaking on Channel Nine'sย Footy Classifiedย on Wednesday night, McGuire said the broadcasters are looking to put on the biggest game possible for the season reboot.
And a clash betwen two of the biggest clubs in the league is sure to draw a big TV audience.
โWhat Channel 7 and Fox Footy want to have is the biggest game they can possibly have,โ McGuire said onย Footy Classified.
โIt was scheduled for Round 2 anyway so I think theyโre going to go with Collingwood- Richmond.
โThe discussions have been whether itโs Collingwood-Melbourne.
โBut Channel 7 and Lewis Martin and Neale Daniher have got an alternative program ready to go on that.โ
The league were expected to announce its restart plans this week, however, the South Australian Government's decision to not allow travel exemptions for its two clubs have thrown a spanner in the works.
West Coast and Fremantle will be forced to relocate to the eastern states for the early rounds, and it is now likely that the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide will follow suit.
