West Coast young gun Harley Reid will be sent for scans on an ankle injury that ended his Western Derby performance abruptly.

Reid was assisted from the field in the fourth term of the Eagles' 49-point defeat after being tackled to the ground, with the 2023 No.1 pick ruled out of returning to the game.

The explosive utility had an impact prior to his injury, collecting 15 goals and two goals while trying to shake off a Jaeger O'Meara tag.

Speaking on the 20-year-old's potential setback, Eagles coach Andrew McQualter said he was unsure of the likely extent of Reid's ailment.

"I just chatted to him. He's hurt his ankle, and I probably don't have much more information than that," the first-year coach said.

"You could see Harley put no weight on it as he was coming off, and then he was able to walk off.

"We'll do the normal protocols. We'll go away, scan it and see. But I don't have much more to add on that.

"I've got no idea (on the severity). He hurt his ankle, couldn't finish the game, didn't come back on. That's what I saw.

"We'll give you the answer when we get it."

McQualter expressed his delight in Reid's battle with O'Meara, crediting his young star's decision to play a more "selfless" role in his attempt to help his side.

The Eagles coach said the performance and Reid's reaction saw the growth the club had hoped for in preparing for such scenarios.

"Harley has been tagged a few times now,"

"A part of our build is that we're adding some things to his game when he gets tagged. We saw a selfless version today of Harley.

"It had some affect at times, and it clearly quelled Harley's influence at times as well. There was a bit of cat and mouse going on at stoppages that you would've seen all day."

Reid's ankle concern wasn't the only injury from Saturday afternoon's clash for West Coast, with key defender Harry Edwards a late withdrawal just moments before the opening bounce.

The Eagles backman reported a hamstring concern in the club's opening warm-up, and further assessment led West Coast to make a late change, with Sandy Brock injected into the side.

"Losing one of our best defenders is clearly not ideal," McQualter said of the situation.

"Harry just felt something in the first warm-up, so we tried to get him going again in the second one just to see where it was.

"We left it to the last minute because he's so important to us, and has been such a valuable part of our team the last eight to 10 weeks.

"Unfortunately, we just couldn't take the risk. We're hopeful it's not too bad."

McQualter also revealed the club remains unsure of the severity of the potential ankle injury to first-year Eagle Bo Allan at training this week.

West Coast losing streak has extended to nine games following their loss to their Western Australian rivals, with a matchup against Melbourne to come in Round 21.
