Despite being tied to Gold Coast for a further two seasons, Chol, 26, has opted out at Carrara, instead seeking to joinย Sam Mitchell's men at some stage throughout the next fortnight.
While Hawthorn's offer to Chol looks set to win out, the former Tiger had been courted by each of the Crows and Kangaroos.
However, as reported byย AFLย Media's Callum Twomey on Thursday, the Roos have joined the Crows in being gazumped, with Hawthorn now tipped to land the VFL premiership player.

Lion opts to stay, not go
Out-of-contract Brisbane midfielder Deven Robertson will remain with the Lions for the next two seasons, with the Western Australian turning his back on a homecoming at West Coast.
Robertson played 16 senior games for Brisbane this season, including the Lions' Grand Final defeat to Collingwood.
The 22-year-old averaged nine disposals, two marks, and two tackles across the season, displaying his potential as a mainstay in Brisbane's elite engine room.

Naughton pens astronomical Dogs deal
Western Bulldogs key forward Aaron Naughton has removed any doubt of a 2024 departure, signing a monumental eight-year contract extension at the Kennel.
The deal ties Naughton to the Bulldogs until at least 2032, ruling out a potential rival play for the high-marking left-footer next year.
The 2024 off-season shapes as key-forward-rich, with the likes of Ben King, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, and Todd Marshall coming off contract. Naughton, who was a part of that tantalising crop before last night, is now off the table.

After an abundance of speculation, it now appears contracted Richmond ruckman Ivan Soldo will remain at Punt Road next season.
Port Adelaide football boss Chris Davies confirmed the Power's interest in luring ruck pair Jordon Sweet and Ivan Soldo to Alberton this off-season on Thursday morning.
However, it seems Soldo won't be joining Sweet in crossing the border to South Australia if Sam Edmund's Thursday afternoon report is anything to go by.
