Former St Kilda captain Danny Frawley believes that Geelong ruckman turned defender, Mark Blicavs, is the most improved player in the competition for his position.

The 27-year-old has been thrown around to almost every position in his career so far, but coach Chris Scott opted to send him to defence this season and it is paying dividends for both the team and player.

Geelong’s defence is the best in the league this year conceding just 69.6 points a game, the lowest of any side in the competition.

Frawley spoke on SEN Breakfast this morning and praised Blicavs for embracing his new role in the team and says he is the most improved player in the AFL in his position.

“Blicavs is probably in my opinion, the most improved player in the competition for the position he plays,” Frawley said.

“I reckon no one at the start of the year would have thought he’s going to be a lockdown defender and give run.

“I think he’s the most improved player in a position in the competition, I’ve got no doubt in that.”

Blicavs and the rest of the Geelong defence will face a tough challenge this week against Adelaide, especially after the loss of Harry Taylor to injury.
