COVID-19 ramifications have the potential to flow into the 2021 season, reports Caroline Wilson.

Victoria, who are currently facing Stage 4 lockdown restrictions, have lost the ability to hold large crowds in stadiums and have been forced into hubs to reduce interstate movement.

With COVID-19 issues still circulating, Wilson believes this could have an impact on next years season.

ā€œ[There’s a] very strong possibility that the season might not start until May or June if COVID-19 continues to dominate the landscape and we can’t get people back into footy stadiums in Melbourne.

ā€œQueensland might be needed to be called upon again to provide a home for AFL football,ā€ Wilson said on Channel Nine's Footy Classified.

ā€œThe AFL have officially asked the Queensland government today whether hosts of players and club officials, even CEOs, can remain in Queensland.

ā€œThey don’t want to come back to Victoria when the season is over, they want special permission to stay up there for weeks, and maybe months,ā€ Wilson said.
