Troubled former AFL star Ben Cousins is recovering in hospital from a car accident, while under Police guard.

Cousins reportedly suffered minor injuries after his car crashed into a truck in the Perth suburb of High Wycombe.

The former premiership player and Brownlow Medalist was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday following a methamphetamine charge, however, he failed to appear at the hearing.

Cousins claimed to be unwell and unable to attend, however, as he did not provide a medical certificate, the magistrate issued an arrest warrant.

The 38-year-old was granted bail last month on the methamphetamine charges and two counts of breaching a violence restraining order.
