Collingwood midfielder Travis Varcoe has been ruled out of the Magpies' blockbuster clash with Carlton on Saturday due to a hamstring strain.

Varcoe may also miss his side's trip to Spotless Stadium to face GWS in two weeks, should he fail to recover from the injury.

The 29-year-old injured his hamstring in the third quarter of his side's win over Geelong on Sunday, and despite contemplating letting the speedster go back on the ground, the club opted on the side of caution.

"The scans verified that it is a slight strain, and he will certainly miss this week," Magpies Football Manager Geoff Walsh told the club's website.

"With hamstrings, it's more than likely that it could develop into two weeks.

"It's not a bad one, so we’ll reassess things in 7-10 days and see how well he is travelling."

In other Pies injury news, new draftee Josh Daicos should be fit for their VFL clash with the Northern Blues on Sunday, while defender Tom Langdon is close to returning to the field after a knee injury.
