Cody Weightman is set to don a new number in 2023, becoming the 14th Dog to wear the number 3 since 1925.

The young pup was drafted in 2019 and has since played 40 games, including 21 in 2022, while wearing the number 19, quickly becoming a mainstay for the Bulldogs inside their forward 50.

A fan favourite of those in red, white and blue, Weightman will now don a number worn by Bulldogs greats like Ted Whitten, Chris Grant and the recently departed Mitch Wallis.

Weightman said it was an "honour" to wear the number 3 jersey as he heads into his fourth season at the Kennel.

“It's a huge privilege and a massive honour to wear number three at the Western Bulldogs,” Weightman said.

“Obviously it is a number that carries responsibility and a deep history at our Club.

“I hope to do the number proud and represent those who have come before me, and it will be great to see the names of my locker every day.

Mitch Wallis is a great mate of mine and it is a privilege to be able to take the number off him and transition that way into the rest of my career.

“The number speaks for itself, the likes of EJ and Granty who have come before me and worn the jumper proud.

“To be able to wear a number with great history that I am sure many a fan has worn on their back every time they support us, is something I am super privileged to do.”
