Cody Weightman is set to don a new number in 2023, becoming the 14th Dog to wear the number 3 since 1925.

The young pup was drafted in 2019 and has since played 40 games, including 21 in 2022, while wearing the number 19, quickly becoming a mainstay for the Bulldogs inside their forward 50.

A fan favourite of those in red, white and blue, Weightman will now don a number worn by Bulldogs greats like Ted Whitten, Chris Grant and the recently departed Mitch Wallis.

Weightman said it was an "honour" to wear the number 3 jersey as he heads into his fourth season at the Kennel.

โ€œIt's a huge privilege and a massive honour to wear number three at the Western Bulldogs,โ€ Weightman said.

โ€œObviously it is a number that carries responsibility and a deep history at our Club.

โ€œI hope to do the number proud and represent those who have come before me, and it will be great to see the names of my locker every day.

โ€œMitch Wallis is a great mate of mine and it is a privilege to be able to take the number off him and transition that way into the rest of my career.

โ€œThe number speaks for itself, the likes of EJ and Granty who have come before me and worn the jumper proud.

โ€œTo be able to wear a number with great history that I am sure many a fan has worn on their back every time they support us, is something I am super privileged to do.โ€
