Geelong fans can breathe a sigh of relief as senior coach Chris Scott has confirmed that Tom Stewart's removal from the Cats clash with St Kilda at three-quarter time was only a precautionary measure. The injury is deemed to be only minor, with the Cats hopeful he will back for their game against North Melbourne next weekend.
Stewart appeared to land awkwardly after a marking contest during the third term and had a clash of knees with a Saints forward. After vision saw him taping his right knee and icing his left knee, there were concerns he had suffered something more significant, but Scott told media post-game that Stewart should be good to go moving forward.
"[Stewart] just jarred his knee. He's had an old minor PCL injury which is why he tapes his knee, but this is unrelated to that," Scott said.
"We think it's fine. We have a low tolerance these days of keeping guys going when they can. The question shouldn't be can they keep going, the question is should they keep going? What does it mean for next week or the week after?
"The strong suggestion is he'll be okay for next week. Hopefully that's off the back of chopping him out [of the game] a little bit earlier."
Geelong will hope Stewart recovers well as they travel up the highway to Marvel Stadium next weekend, taking on the Kangaroos on Saturday.
