Carlton, Melbourne among four clubs to reveal late setbacks to key players

Some selection surprises arose ahead of Round 9.

Carlton and Melbourne are among a quartet of clubs to reveal surprise injury concerns with their team selection announcements for Round 9.

The Demons will be without gun midfielder Jack Viney due to concussion, with the senior onballer reporting symptoms after Thursday's session.

Melbourne are set to work with AFL in regards to understanding the earlier return date for Viney, who will be required to miss a minimum of 12 days, ruling him out of this week's contest with Hawthorn and potentially next week's meeting with Brisbane.

“Jack reported some symptoms after training today, which resulted in him being assessed by our medical team,” Demons football boss Alan Richardson said in a club update.

“Through this process, he was diagnosed with delayed concussion from our match against West Coast on the weekend.

“Jack has now entered the AFL concussion protocols. Due to the recency of the reporting of symptoms, as per AFL guidelines, we are now working with the AFL to determine his progression through these protocols.”

Meanwhile, Carlton has revealed small forward Lachie Fogarty is dealing with hamstring tightness and will miss Friday's clash with St Kilda.

Fogarty is expected to be in the mix for Round 10 selection, however will need to prove his fitness at training.

The Blues revealed Fogarty sustained the ailment at Wednesday's session and has since been unable to train.

The Western Bulldogs have lost All-Australian Adam Treloar to calf tightness for Saturday's Darwin matchup with Gold Coast.

Treloar only recently made his season debut due to a series of calf issues, with the Dogs not disclosing the extent of his latest setback.

Lastly, GWS have ruled out small forward Darcy Jones for this week's trip to Geelong due to a knee issue.

Jones is expected to be in line to play in Round 10 but will need to get through training next week.
