Former GWS Giants tall Wade Derksen has been granted a Carlton Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) trial at the expense of Will White.
Carlton confirmed on Friday that White's trial had come to an end. Contracted to the Blues' VFL side in 2026, Derksen has been given the opportunity to earn an AFL lifeline after 57 state league games for the Giants.
He was named in the VFL's 2024 team of the year.
The club has one available list spot that it has the option of filling prior to the March 2 deadline.
Elijah Hollands is also pressing his case to return to the list after being delisted at the end of last year.
White's departure follows 12 months on the AFL list, managing 14 games.
“Anybody who knows Will knows how great a club person he is,” Blues Head of List Management Nick Austin said.
“The friendships he leaves with is a true testament to that, he is a player who never took for granted what it meant to wear the monogram and we wish him all the best for the next step in his career.
“This now gives Wade the opportunity to be with the program full time as we looking to finalise our playing list ahead of 2 March.”
