Carlton have been forced to cancel their 2020 John Nicholls Medal ceremony due to the latest Victorian Department of Health update.

The Blues' night of nights was set to take place at Crown Palladium this Saturday, but with new measures enforced by the government the club will now look to host an alternative event that is likely to be made available online.

Carlton chief executive Cain Liddle said while it was an unfortunate decision to make, the club and state's health and safety remains a priority.

“The health and safety of our players, coaches, staff, members and the wider public has and always will be our club’s number one priority,” Liddle told Carlton Media

“As a result of the unfortunate information released by the Department of Health last night, we would simply not be able to deliver the 2020 John Nicholls Medal in the manner we intended.

“While we were certainly looking forward to finally having our football club back together again – something we have greatly missed over the last 12 months, we acknowledge that right now this is the right thing to do, for our club, for our guests and for the wider public.

“A focus for us has been on providing Kade Simpson and Matthew Kreuzer, two champions of our Club, as well as our 2020 AFLW Best and Fairest winner Madison Prespakis, along with the announcement of a club Legend, with the fitting acknowledgement they deserve, and we remain committed to doing that at another time.”
