Carlton's Nic Newman will remain in the Navy Blue until the end of 2026 after penning a new extension.
Newman joined the Blues after a four-year stint at Sydney, where he played 31 games once he was taken in the 2015 Rookie Draft.
However, since joining the Victorian club, the 32-year-old has found a consistent home across the half back, adding 103 matches to his tally, whilst also providing immense leadership to the group.
During his time at Carlton, Newman has gone on to become a back-to-back runner-up in the John Nicholls Medal, a three-time best clubman and has proved to be one of the more successful bargain buys after the Swans sent him packing for a future fourth-round pick.
The classy left-footer has quickly become a fan favourite among the Blues faithful, taking on mentor roles and guiding the next generation through, which has been paid in spades during his time on the sidelines.
Newman is currently recovering from a ruptured patella tendon injury that he sustained during the pre-season, but has more recently joined training and is nearing full sessions.
He has taken a role on the interchange bench during match days, and has had an influential hand in the club's AFLW program as an assistant coach, speaking to his impact throughout the entire organisation.
"Nic is a consistent player, when he is on the field, you can back him in to play any role tasked to him. His ability to predict the play and make an impact in bringing the ball forward is impressive," Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said.
"Nic is the kind of person and player you want at your Club. He naturally embodies all the values we hold in high regard at Carlton, both on and off the field. He is unrelenting and carries himself with such humility – a great example to the young guys we have seen start to emerge at senior level.
"Nic's on-field leadership is an invaluable asset; he helps to dictate the play on the field whilst leading the backline with such poise, alongside co-vice captain Jacob Weitering.
"We are really pleased that Nic, along with his fiancé Sam and daughter Audrey, will continue to call IKON Park home."
Newman is still hopeful he'll return to the field before the season concludes. His re-signing follows recent recommitments from Lachie Cowan (2028), Matt Carroll (2027) and Harry O'Farrell (2027).
The Blues will attempt to end a three-game losing streak on Thursday against Brisbane.
