Carlton father-son prospect Ben Camporeale has been suspended for four matches for his rough conduct charge on Brisbane's Deven Robertson in the VFL after he fronted the Tribunal on Wednesday night.

The incident was graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact, meaning Camporeale could have accepted a four-match ban with an early plea.

The Blues opted to challenge the ban, but were unsuccessful in their attempt, resulting in a four-week layoff.

The incident occurred during Friday's clash at IKON Park.

Robertson was left with a concussion and broken teeth, while teammate James Tunstill was also concussed.

Camporeale will be unavailable for senior selection, missing games against Melbourne, Hawthorn, Fremantle and Gold Coast.

Carlton's next four games in the VFL are against Casey Demons, Frankston Dolphins, the Suns, and Footscray Bulldogs to round out the remainder of the home and away season.

The Pick 43 from last year's draft has yet to debut for the Blues, and has played 14 games in the reserves since being selected as a father-son pick.

Camporeale is averaging 21.9 disposals, 2.3 marks and 4.5 tackles.

The Blues will contest the charge at the VFL Tribunal on Wednesday in the hope of reducing the sanction.

Brisbane's Robertson, despite suffering an injury from the collision, was sanctioned earlier for a contest during the same match.

The Lions midfielder was seen striking Carlton VFL player Patrick Dozzi in the third term, and was offered a two-match ban as the base sanction, with an early plea, which was accepted, at one week.
