Carlton coach Michael Voss has provided an update on injured forward Zac Williams, who was sidelined early in the Blues' victory over Geelong on Sunday.

Williams kicked the Blues' opening goal off a step from 55 metres, but was into the changerooms before the end of the first term, soon replaced by substitute Ollie Lord.

It is yet another setback for Williams, who has an extensive history of soft tissue complaints. The former Giant was most recently subbed out of Round 3 after an awkward landing in a marking contest, however avoided a dreaded Achilles tear and suited up again in Round 4.

Voss confirmed that Williams had suffered a calf injury, with the 30-year-old to be sent for scans to confirm its extent, as well as reassuring the blow won't dampen the forward's spirits.

"Williams (is a) calf, yeah," Voss said.

"We'll get out a scan to find out the significance of it."

"He'll be fine [mentally]. Everyone's got their own sort of little journey that they've got. They've got their own little story to tell. I spoke to him in the rooms afterwards. he's disappointed that he can't join us, but he's literally hardly missed a session throughout the whole year.

"We've managed him as we would with someone with a slight (soft tissue) history, but he's trained really well. He's been as keen as anyone. He's been in some good form, filling a really good role for us, something a bit different that's unique to him.

Hopefully we're missing him just for a couple of weeks but I don't know the scale of it yet, so I guess it's a bit of wait and see. But again, he's a pretty important player to the makeup of our forward line."

Williams has kicked eight goals in seven games this season, including a four-goal haul against North Melbourne last week.

The Blues face Adelaide and St Kilda away in the next fortnight, with Williams likely to be sidelined for both fixtures.

Voss also dismissed any concerns for Nick Haynes who appeared sore towards the end of the game after a terrific defensive display, recording eight intercept marks and 20 disposals.
