Carlton coach Michael Voss says he wouldn't publicly announce his pursuit of a rival club's player in the wake of Collingwood's chase of out-of-contract defender Jack Silvagni.
Amid an uncertain era for the Blues, the Pies are attempting to swoop on Silvagni in a bid to bolster their defensive line.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae confirmed during his weekly press conference (following probing from the media) that he'd met with the 27-year-old, and that he'd like a "second date".
Ahead of Carlton's clash with Fremantle in Perth, Voss was bemused by the fact that his former teammate and rival coach would declare that to the masses, a tactic he wouldn't do.
"It's unusual for a coach to announce something like that," Voss said.
"Regardless of what Craig did, it's not something we would do. We will respect the privacy of the player.
"It's not for me to announce something like that on behalf of someone, because they're the ones that have to walk back into the locker room.
"We'd choose not to make that sort of announcement.
"And while I didn't necessarily read all the headlines around Oscar, I believe he came under a fair bit of heat."

It is understood that the Blues and Pies have offered Silvagni similar offers, ranging from four years and $600,000 in value.
Voss was adamant that the three-generation utility was a pivotal part of the club's future.
"I want to be really clear - he's a very important player for us. We're certainly hoping he plays out the rest of his career with us," Voss said.
"Jack's had a really important role shift this year. It's been a real win for us to see where he's gone from forward to back."
With the Blues out of finals contention, Michael Voss' future also hangs in the balance, despite being contracted for 2026.
Incoming CEO Graham Wright has a history of making difficult decisions, and could reek havoc on the playing list if deemed not suitable for premierships.
