Hawthorn has announced that gun small forward Nick Watson has signed a three-year extension, locking him away at the club until the end of 2029.

Watson has taken the AFL world by storm with his sheer brilliance and cheeky antics that have proven intoxicating at the Hawks.

The Eastern Ranges product was drafted with Pick 5 in the 2023 National Draft and played 18 matches in his debut season, kicking 25 goals as the club returned to September action.

The 'Wizard' has backed up his extraordinary efforts in 2024, slotting 30 majors this season as the Hawks fight for a position inside the top eight.

"It was a no-brainer," Watson said.

"I love the Hawks. They've been really welcoming. We're such a tight group, and we've come so far from where we started last year.

"Didn't cross my mind about leaving (to go) to any other club."

Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager, Mark McKenzie, said Watson's extension was an early reward for effort in his short time at Hawthorn.

"While Nick's elite talent is something that captivates us all, what impresses us the most is his continued development, adding further layers to his game," said McKenzie.

"With his elite speed, pressure and footy smarts, Nick's ability to create repeated scoring opportunities for his teammates and himself is a real weapon for our side.

"At just 20 years of age, Nick's ceiling is as high as any other player, and we see him as a key piece of our future, continuing to bring smiles to the faces of the brown and gold faithful for years to come."
