Sydney midfielder Tom Mitchell has officially requested a trade to the Hawks.

The Swans released the following statement a short time ago:

"Out of contract Sydney midfielder Tom Mitchell has informed the Swans he would like to seek a trade.

The 23-year-old has nominated Hawthorn as his preferred club.

Swans Head of Football Tom Harley met with Hawthorn and other clubs in Melbourne today, as part of the commencement of the AFL Trade Period.

"We learnt of Tom's preference today, so now we will discuss as a list management team what the next steps look like,” Harley said.

The Swans will continue working with Mitchell’s management and will not be providing further comment."

Mitchell has played 65 games for the Swans, averaging 25 disposals, 3.7 marks, 5.9 tackles and 0.6 goals per game.

He was recruited as a father-son selection with pick No.21 in the 2011 National Draft.
