Former Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett has officially requested a trade back to Geelong.

The 33-year-old left the Cats at the end of the 2010 season to move to the Suns, and the midfielder played 110 games for Gold Coast in his seven seasons at the club.

Suns Chief Executive Mark Evans has released the following statement on the club's website.

"Gary Ablett today informed the club of his desire to be traded to Geelong during next month's exchange period."

"We indicated to Gary and his manager Liam Pickering that there are conditions that will need to be met for the Gold Coast if this is to be achieved."

"Scott Clayton will be available to meet with Liam and Geelong to ensure these conditions are met."

The two parties will now need to facilitate a deal in order to allow Ablett to move back to the Cats.
