West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern has ended contract talks with the club and will decide his future at the end of the 2018 season.

The All Australian is believed to be after a five-year deal and may exercise his free agency rights in October, where he may command close to $1 million per season.

Fremantle have shown interest in prying McGovern away from West Coast and a host of Victorian clubs are keen, with one reportedly already tabling a six-year deal to him worth $7 million.

“I am probably going to put it on hold I think until the end of the year,” McGovern told Hit 92.9 radio in Perth on Thursday.

“I spoke to my manager (Colin Young) about it and I’m loving my footy at the moment.

“It’s just easier for everyone I think, rather than a running commentary every week. We can just leave it until then. I’m loving my footy with the boys.

“We will reassess it through the bye and at the end of the year we will probably look at it.

“It’s just running commentary every week. Everyone is asking about it. If I just put it off then everyone can get over it and let me play footy.”

McGovern has played every game for the Eagles this season and ranks first in the competition for contested marks and fourth in intercepts.
