Jaeger O'Meara has officially requested a trade to Hawthorn.

O'Meara informed the Suns of his desire to join the Hawks earlier today, after he last month officially requested a trade.

The Hawks will now work with the Suns to facilitate a trade for the 22-year-old.

“Jaeger has indicated he wants to be at Hawthorn in 2017 and we are keen to make this happen,” Hawthorn Recruiting and List Manager Graham Wright said.

“We fully respect that Jaeger is a Gold Coast player and we will work closely with the Suns in the lead up to the trade period to ensure we can get an appropriate deal done.”

O'Meara won the 2013 rising star award and played every game in his first two years, before debilitating knee injuries saw him miss the past two seasons.

He is said to have been deciding between Hawthorn and Essendon.

  1. keep saying it every year and it will come true eventually…bitter…I say load up with O’mera, mitchell, and that nufty from richmond (somehow get him to grow some balls) and 2017 the Hawks could challenge the Giants. Rough come back mid season and start to show he’s still got plenty to offer. Who would like to get in the way of that fairytale finish. Hodgey and the boys will squash anyone that tries!

  2. Clubs are ruthless, they don’t give contracts to players that are good blokes or loyal….if they can’t get a kick they get a presser …….’we would like to thank (such and such) for their time at the club and wish them all the best for the future’. Or if they think they have currency they flick you to wherever they want. Can’t remember a club being loyal to someone because they like them….People only give a shit because he’s a good player. Finally, how outrageous is it that someone should get to have a say on where they work….

  3. Nah they will have to give more than they got for Franklin……end of first round…. for arguably one of the best forwards of all time. Hawks will have to give twice as much for a Kid that hasn’t played a game for two years and is no guarantee to re-capture elite form. Not sure AFL have any right to stick their nose in. They set the cap and the free agency rules, as long as clubs adhere the AFL can……

  4. Yep hawks made same error when they got in Burgoyne with no knees and Lake who was well past it…..what are the hawks thinking……that club will never learn.
