Greater Western Sydney star Toby Greene has been sent directly to the AFL Tribunal for his altercation with umpire Matt Stevic.

Greene has been placed under scrutiny from the Match Review Officer for making contact with Stevic, with the incident now being referred to the Tribunal.

The incident occurred at three-quarter time during the Giants' elimination final win over Sydney on Saturday.

The Giants forward has been charged with Intentional Umpire Contact and won't be able to accept an early guilty plea.

"Based on the available evidence, the incident was assessed as Intentional Umpire Contact. The incident was classified as a direct referral to the Tribunal and the player cannot accept an early plea," the league's findings read.

Greene is likely to miss his side's semi-final clash against Geelong next week, with many believing the GWS livewire will be suspended for multiple weeks.
