Western Bulldogs defender Marcus Adams will miss the first half of the season after suffering an ankle injury at training on Friday.

Adams' ankle was caught in a tackle according to westernbulldogs.com.au, with scans revealing the 24-year-old suffered a high-grad syndesmosis injury.

He is set to undergo surgery in the coming days, and will likely miss the next 10-12 weeks.

Adams could only manage 11 games in his second season with the club, before injuring his foot in round 12 against Sydney.

The defender has played 21 career games for the Dogs, and averages 15.9 disposals, 6.1 marks and 2.7 rebound 50s per game.
