Adelaide defender Brodie Smith will miss the rest of the season and most of the 2018 campaign after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in Thursday night' qualifying final win over GWS.

Smith sustained the ACL injury during the first quarter, with scans confirming on Friday morning the 25-year-old would be out of action for some time.

“The injury is really disappointing for both Brodie and the Club as we start our finals campaign,” Adelaide's Head of Football Brett Burton told afc.com.au.

“We will consult a specialist this week with the view to Brodie having surgery, which will unfortunately rule him out for the season.

“Brodie will still be an important part of the group as we continue through September.”
