Young Essendon forward Nate Caddy has reportedly faced a setback with his nagging groin concern, which sidelined him from the final four games of his 2025 campaign.

According to Herald Sun's Jay Clark, the star 20-year-old complained about soreness and restriction of movement in his groin on Monday after participating in the Bombers full training session, and will now spend the rest of the week on a modified program.

The Bombers don't believe the setback is serious, and his program will be reassessed "after a week or two" of being reduced, with Caddy expected to do some light trackwork on Friday.

Caddy visited Qatar in September to complete an intensive week-long block of a strength and reconditioning program to assist with the groin concern, and was having a strong start to his pre-season under Essendon's new head of high performance, Matt Inness, before this latest issue.

Caddy has featured in 27 of a possible 44 games in his short AFL career thus far and is one of the brightest spots of talent on Essendon's rebuilding list, already amassing 29 goals in his career as a dynamic key tall option inside forward 50.
