VAFA standout Sam Sofronidis has reportedly been offered a final opportunity to win a spot on a rookie list ahead of Monday's Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) deadline.
Sofronidis unluckily missed out on each of Collingwood's three vacant list spots after the Magpies extended contracts to ex-Essendon tall Josh Eyre, Bulldogs VFL captain Lachie Sullivan and delisted St Kilda midfielder Jack Bytel on Thursday.
However, Essendon is understood to be offering the Wesley Collegians defender a final chance at landing on an AFL list this pre-season.
Per AFL Media's Josh Gabelich, Sofronidis will be afforded one Bombers session to prove himself to Essendon's list management brain trust.
Sam Sofronidis has another SSP chance. Essendon has invited the VAFA star to trial for a rookie spot. Will get one session to impress before the deadline on Monday. More on @AFLcomau

Geelong, Sydney and Gold Coast, in addition to the Magpies, assessed Sofronidis late last year after he helped Wesley triumph in the VAFA's premier division in 2023.
Collingwood also trialled ex-Power ruckman Brynn Teakle and Magpies VFL skipper Campbell Hustwaite before settling on Eyre, Sullivan and Bytel on Friday afternoon, approximately a year after snapping up now-premiership player Oleg Markov.
In other SSP news, Fremantle confirmed its addition of delisted Essendon key forward Patrick Voss on Thursday evening.
The SSP deadline is set for 5:00 PM AEDT on Monday, February 19.
