After Conor McKenna's positive COVID-19 test on the weekend, his Essendon teammates are expecting to learn their fate as early as this afternoon, reportsย Fox Sports.ย

The Essendon playing list will be tested at Marvel Stadium today. It is up to the Department of Health and Human Services to decide who, if anyone, is defined as coming into close contact with McKenna.

Training on Friday, McKenna worked in a smaller group with a number of fellow defenders.

Close contact is defined as face-to-face contact for 15 minutes or remaining in a confined space for two hours.

Adam Saad, Jordan Ridley, Cale Hooker,ย  Matt Guelfi, Michael Hurley, and Mason Redman all completed a weight session alongside McKenna on Friday. Depending on the Department's call, these players might all be forced into quarantine for two weeks.

Meanwhile, the AFL is investigating whether McKenna is guilty of breaching the league's COVID-19 regulations after he inspected an open house before his positive test. If found guilty, he could face a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

And with the AFL insisting all games will continue if 26 players are available for each team, Essendon may be forced to play a depleted side for their next two games against big rivals Carlton and Collingwood.
