Essendon forward Jake Stringer is demanding career certainty with the club, reportedly requesting at least a four-year deal to stay on with the Bombers.

According to Fox Footy's Tom Morris, If the Bombers don't meet Stringer's demands, then the 27-year-old may look at other options from rival clubs.

Stringer is out-of-contract at the end of the season, but Essendon General Manager of Football Josh Mahoney is aware of how important the Bombers spearhead is to the club.

"Heโ€™s a quality player and heโ€™s an important player for us," Mahoney told SEN Breakfast.ย

"Heโ€™s had an interrupted 2020, he had a slow start to this year but in the games that heโ€˜s played, you can see how much of an impact player he is."

Mahoney is confident that they will re-sign Stringer but outlined that there is no hurry to do so at the present time.

"Thereโ€™s no rush on getting him to sign a contract at the moment. He wants to stay at the club, we want Jake, so I think thatโ€™ll get done, Mahoney added.

After being traded from the Western Bulldogs to Essendon following the 2017 season, Stringer has struggled to regain the form that saw him kick 56 goals in 2015, earning him All Australian honours.

Stringer however has enjoyed a great start to the 2021 season, kicking 12 goals in his first five games, but obtained a hamstring injury against the Giants in Round 8 that has sidelined him for up to four weeks.

Stringer will look to continue that impressive form once he returns from his hamstring injury, as he looks to prove that he deserves a long-term contract with the Bombers.
