The AFL women's league has claimed another coup, with Olympians Kim Mickle and Erin Phillips signing up for the inaugural season of the competition.

Mickle has signed with the Dockers ahead of the 2017 season, after recently competing in the javelin at the Rio Olympics.

The 31-year-old played football as a junior before focusing on athletics. She won gold at the 2004 Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, Adelaide has signed basketballer Erin Phillips.

Phillips played for the Opals in Rio and will complete her duties for the Dallas Wings in the WNBA before joining the Crows.

Phillips, the daughter of Greg Phillips who played 343 games for Port Adelaide, had initially committed to playing with the Power, before the club chose not to bid for a women's team.

Greg Phillips also played 85 games for Collingwood in the VFL, meaning his daughter could have joined the Magpies as a father-daughter selection.
