Leading West Australian sports journalist Digby Beacham was excited about Fremantle's prospects in their opening game when he joined Mark Stevens in Zero Hanger's The Outer Wing, brought to you by TABtouch.

"I think Fremantle are as well placed as they could be," said Beacham.

"They beat Geelong in two low scoring games down there in Geelong [last season], so the ground holds no fears."

Beacham believes that this game could be Fremantle's opportunity to send a message to the whole competition.

"If Fremantle go down there and get the job done and make a bit of an impression, I think people will sit back and go: this is a side that will be very difficult to beat."

If Fremantle plays well against Geelong, Beacham says they could be added to the growing list of teams from outside Victoria who are making their mark on the league.

"I talk Sydney, I talk Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide. Sides who are ready to play a part in the pointy end of the season," said Beecham.

Beecham did emphasise that this game will be important in changing the trajectory in the way Fremantle is perceived.

"Fremantle aren't in a position to get ahead of themselves because, to be brutally honest... they haven't done anything yet. And I mean that respectfully. They've still got to prove themselves." says Beacham.
