Dan McStay is reportedly the latest Collingwood player to suffer a soft tissue setback this week.
According to Channel 7's Mitch Cleary, the 30-year-old key forward suffered a hamstring injury at training on Wednesday morning.
It follows Jeremy Howe and Darcy Moore suffering calf injuries on Monday, while Isaac Quaynor is also dealing with a hamstring complaint
The severity of the McStay injury is unknown, but with Collingwood's Opening Round match less than two months away, it is a concerning setback.
Long time forward Brody Mihocek and forward/ruck Mason Cox both departed the Pies in the off-season, putting added responsibility on McStay and inexperienced recruit Jack Buller.
McStay kicked 19 goals from 18 games in 2025, while also being utilised as a relieving ruck and even in defence for brief periods.
It continues a host of injuries across the league in the first week back at training since Christmas, with Jesse Motlop, Clayton Oliver, Tom Cochrane and Jackson Archer others to suffer setbacks.
"If you have an interrupted pre-season through soft tissue or other injury, more than likely you're going to have an interrupted season,” former Collingwood Sports Science Director David Buttifant told Zero Hanger.
“These guys who have a soft tissue injury, they do a calf, do a hammy, quad, or whatever, they're going to miss three weeks, right? Minimum three weeks.
"So straightaway, they're not going to be ready for Round 1. Even you might get them up, but they're not going to be ready to go."
