SEN's Andy Maher has mail on a potential AFL return date and how it could look upon restarting.

The media personality said he has been informed by a well-placed source the competition is aiming to reset mid June.

He reports that the current plan is for clubs to spend five weeks in hubs, one in Queensland and one in Victoria, and play seven games during that period.

โ€œIโ€™m not going to mention where this has come from, Iโ€™ll just say itโ€™s someone who has been in the game for a long time and knows a lot of key people. He sent me this text message,โ€ Maher told SEN.

โ€œFive weeks in hubs โ€“ seven games. So they play every five days, they train mid-May, play mid-June.

โ€œOne hub in Queensland and one in Victoria. Reason for the hold up is medical advice. They wonโ€™t lock in anything they canโ€™t deliver unlike the NRL."

Maher added that the NRL will be forced to push back its earmarked May 28 return date.

โ€œIโ€™m also hearing the NRL will not be allowed to play on the 28th of May so theyโ€™ll look silly again. AFL very cautious, very responsible.โ€

The AFL is reportedly waiting for the national cabinet's May 10 meeting before it announces its plans on May 11.
