The All-Australian team is set to be been expanded to include 23 players from 2026, up from the regular 22 this year.
It falls in line with the league removing the sub rule in favour of a five-player bench, with the confirmation coming via a memo sent to clubs on Wednesday.
It's one of a host of changes that has been proposed ahead of the 2026 AFL and AFLW seasons, with the league also set to ban jumper-punchers.
In 2025, stomach punches warranted a fine, but in 2025 they will be graded as medium impact, earning a one-game suspension.
The Match Review Officer (MRO) will, however, have more flexibility to grade a careless incident which results in a concussion as either medium or high impact, rather than the severe grading that was automatically given for 2025. This opens up the option of suspensions shorter than three weeks for such incidents.
AFL Chief Executive Andrew Dillon or Executive General Manager Greg Swann will also now be able to nominate a mark or goal of the year candidate outside of the weekly winners.
Monday night tribunal cases have also been recommended for teams playing the following Thursday, while sponsorship logos on headbands will be banned.
