The AFL's broadcasting partners could implement crowd noises into games to make fan-less matches more genuine for both players and viewers, according toย Channel Seven'sย Mark Stevens.

With the return of football likely to be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic, the league are reportedly looking into every avenue to liven up the atmosphere where possible.

Round 1 of the 2020 season was found to be awkward for all parties as stadiums were hollowed out across all nine matches.

The league is strongly considering giving its broadcasting partners the chance to spring life back into the game with canned crowds via an in-house audio technician.

The induced audio will aim to follow the story of the respective match, raising and lowering volume to suit the script of each game.

It remains unclear whether the league will introduce the new effects for both fans at home and within each ground for players.

League partner Channel 7 are believed to have been studying the idea for some time, gaining advice from US experts on the matter.

Western Bulldogs recruit Josh Bruce believes the AFL is in a position to add life to crowd-less games.

โ€œHearing no crowd after a goal, I think there could be a way it could be done a little bit better for the viewers and obviously for the players,โ€ Bruce told 7NEWS.

All 18 clubs are looking to prepare for a mid-year restart in June or July, with no confirmed date in place.

Clubs may have to prepare for Wednesday night matches to aid the process of finishing the remaining 144-game fixture.

โ€œPersonally I wouldnโ€™t have a problem sitting down on a Monday night or a Tuesday night watching a game of footy,โ€ Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said.

The AFL are understood to be open to the idea of twilight or night grand final in summer under the unprecedented circumstances.
