Geelong senior coach Chris Scott won't seek to reignite the debate about where the Cats should host their September fixtures, despite GMHBA Stadium's recently upgraded ability to hold a capacity crowd of 40,000 spectators.

Scott was quizzed on the matter following their 39-point win over Richmond on Saturday afternoon, with the club officially securing a top two spot and home qualifying final.

However, the long-time Geelong servant wasn't willing to stir up controversy about whether Geelong should be allowed to host Finals contests at their home venue, highlighting that the business interests of the AFL ultimately prevent the Cats in having a say.

"I don't have any opinion on what the AFL do," Scott said.

"I'll repeat what I've said probably 100 times. I feel really strongly, and we feel strongly as a club, that clubs should get to choose where they play their 11 home games. And it's up to the AFL to decide what they prioritise in finals.

"I think they've been quite clear that they [the AFL] have other priorities other than what would be logically fair. That's their prerogative."

The last time Geelong played a match in September at Kardinia Park was 2012, where Fremantle stormed the Cattery with a six-goal first quarter blitz and walked away with a 16-point upset win in the 2nd Elimination Final.

The Cats will face either Brisbane or Hawthorn at the MCG in their upcoming qualifying final, depending on the outcome of Sunday's fixture between the two sides.
