Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines is set to miss Travis Boak and Ken Hinkley's farewell match on Friday night after his appeal for a three match ban was unsuccessful at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.
The former Brownlow Medallist was charged with a high bump on Carlton's Cooper Lord, who suffered delayed concussion symptoms and was eventually subbed out of the Blues' win.
The Power sought to downgrade the impact from severe to high, which would reduce the ban from three to two weeks.
They also argued exceptional and compelling circumstances for the Brownlow Medalist who has never previously been reported.
The Power also argued that, given the delayed nature of the concussion, it may not have been caused by the Wines bump.
The AFL argued Wines took action which increased the force of the bump.
Tribunal chair Jeff Gleeson indicated the degree of force was a driving factor behind the decision.
“The impact was severe,” Gleeson said.
“The video shows Wines accelerated into Lord and made flush and forceful contact with his shoulder to Lord's head.
“The force of the impact was significant.
“Lord was knocked off his feet and took time to get back to his feet before jogging off slowly.”
