The AFL will provide an update on the investigation into Adelaide forward Izak Rankine and his use of a homophobic slur towards a Collingwood player.
Rankine is facing a suspension that could see him ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 season, including the finals, as the Crows are set to secure the minor premiership.
The comment was made by the livewire forward during Saturday night's heart-stopping three-point victory over the Pies, which was sent straight to the AFL Integrity Unit.
The investigation will now reach a fourth day, with the league releasing this statement:
"The AFL advises that the Adelaide Crows have requested additional time to respond to the AFL's proposed determinations regarding an alleged incident with player Izak Rankine.
"The AFL has granted this request and will provide an update on the matter tomorrow."
Rankine, if found guilty, would become the sixth player to be suspended for the use of a homophobic comment in the past two years.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae was disappointed such language was used in the "workplace" but moved to avoid "demonising" Rankine.
"I think as an industry we've been slow to the party, but we just don't want to accept these behaviours in our workplace. I think no one wants that in their workplace, and the AFL industry is no different," McRae said on Wednesday.
"But also, I don't want to demonise Izak either. Everyone's allowed to make mistakes. The young lad seems like a really respectful young man, and he's made an error."
