1. GWS (-)

Ladder position: 2nd

One of the best wins in the club's history. GWS were missing up to 10 players from their best 22 and reportedly had around just 26 players to choose from, but defied all the odds to travel west and beat the Eagles on their home deck. The Giants are setting the bar now.

2. Adelaide (-)

Ladder position: 1st

Adelaide's dominance is back. They kicked 20.23 and still beat Fremantle by 100 points, which suggests it could have been one of the biggest margins in league history had they kicked straighter. A huge test against the Cats in Geelong awaits on Friday night.

3. Western Bulldogs (-)

Ladder position: 4th

It took them a while, but the Dogs finally got going late in the second quarter against St Kilda on Saturday before dominating the second half. Jake Stringer returned and put in a strong performance, as the bye probably comes at a good time for the club injury-wise, with some stars still on the recovery table.

4. Geelong (+2)

Ladder position: 3rd

The Cats did what they needed to do on Thursday night against the Power, and have won two on the bounce in Geelong against two of the league's stronger sides of 2017 (Bulldogs, Power). If they can beat Adelaide at Simonds Stadium this weekend, they'll be setting themselves up for a strong position.

5. Port Adelaide (-)

Ladder position: 8th

They've got one of the best percentages in the league despite their 5-4 record, so it's not all doom and gloom for the Power. A tough loss against Geelong will sting for a bit, but there's no doubting this side's genuine top four credentials.

6. West Coast (-2)

Ladder position: 6th

A poor result to the Eagles was compounded by an injury to superstar Josh Kennedy, who could be out for an extended period after sustaining a lower leg injury late in the game on Sunday. It was a match West Coast just needed to win at home, as they missed their chance to jump into the top four.

7. Richmond (+2)

Ladder position: 5th

It had been a challenging three weeks for the Tigers leading up to the Dreamtime at the 'G clash, but Richmond were able to expel their demons to record a tense 15-point win over the Bombers. Dustin Martin led Richmond from the front, as the Tigers jumped back into 5th, and are just 0.1% outside the top four.

8. St Kilda (-1)

Ladder position: 10th

The Saints had a chance to impress against the Bulldogs but failed to show fight after half-time, and were soundly beaten in the end. The bye looms this weekend, meaning St Kilda will need to come in swinging in the weeks after to ensure they stick with the top eight.

9. Fremantle (-1)

Ladder position: 7th

How does a side with a 6-4 record have a percentage of 81.5%? Two trips to Adelaide, that's how. The Dockers backed up their 89-point loss to the Power in round two with a 100-point smashing at the hands of the Crows on Saturday, as Ross Lyon lost his first ever match by three figures.

10. Melbourne (+2)

Ladder position: 9th

It wasn't all smooth sailing for the Demons as they only managed to lead the Suns by two points at three-quarter time, but a nine-goal final term blew Gold Coast out of the water and saw the Dees win their first match in Alice Springs.

11. Essendon (-1)

Ladder position: 11th

The Bombers had a chance to make a name for themselves on Saturday night in the marquee match-up, but they just weren't up Richmond's level. The game stayed close because the Tigers allowed it too, as Essendon's up and down season continues.

12. North Melbourne (+1)

Ladder position: 13th

They almost did the unthinkable, but North were good enough to handle a hot Carlton side in the second half on Sunday. They led by 45 points midway through the second quarter but were under the pump late, although the resolve shown by Brad Scott's men was impressive.

13. Sydney (-2)

Ladder position: 15th

It was a huge chance for the Swans to continue on their winning streak and keep the league on notice, but they couldn't hold off an impressive Hawthorn side on Friday night. Sydney were two men down for the second half, which certainly didn't help their chances in the dying stages.

14. Hawthorn (+3)

Ladder position: 14th

A big win for the Hawks. Sydney's form saw them as red-hot favourites before the game, although Hawthorn led for most of the night before Jarryd Roughead kicked home the winner with just over one minute remaining. Are they still alive?

15. Collingwood (-)

Ladder position: 12th

One of the more unconvincing 45-point wins you'll ever see. Collingwood were without a doubt the better side but needed almost the entire afternoon to kill of the Lions, who were simply playing some bad, bad football.

16. Carlton (-2)

Ladder position: 17th

The Blues almost pulled off a miracle at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, but seemed to run out of steam after taking the lead from North Melbourne. Bryce Gibbs was brilliant for Carlton, as they continue to fight and push teams for all four quarters.

17. Gold Coast (-1)

Ladder position:16th

The Suns led by 35 points midway during the third quarter of their match against Melbourne on Saturday, before letting Melbourne run over the top of them in the final term.

18. Brisbane (-)

Ladder position:18th

Another round, another loss for the Lions. That's nine in a row for Brisbane after beating the Suns in round one, and they'll head into the bye two wins from 17th position.
