Richmond's Noah Balta has been charged with rough conduct by the AFL's Match Review Officer following an incident during the opening quarter of Saturday's loss to Gold Coast.

The incident in question involved Suns utility Alex Sexton, which gained the scrutiny of the MRO in the wake of Opening Round.

The MRO has graded Balta's actions as careless conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a fine for Balta.

The Richmond swingman can accept a $2,500 fine with an early guilty plea or challenge the charge, risking a $3,750 fine if unsuccessful.

Having avoided a suspension, Balta will be available for selection for Thursday's Round 1 clash against Carlton.

No other players were cited from Saturday's two Opening Round matches.

Balta's charge follows recent fines for Sydney's Justin McInerney, Brisbane's Lachie Neale and Carlton's George Hewett from the first week of action.
