The AFL's Match Review Officer has handed down three charges from Sunday's action, with Essendon midfielder Sam Durham handed a two-game suspension for forceful front-on contact.

The charge follows an incident involving Durham and Carlton's Adam Cerra in the second term of the game between the Bombers and Blues at the MCG.

Durham's actions have been graded as careless conduct, high impact and high contact, resulting in a two-game ban for Durham.

Essendon and Durham can either accept the penalty or challenge the sanction at the AFL Tribunal this week.

An accepted suspension would see Durham miss upcoming games against Geelong and Fremantle, with a return to come against Gold Coast in Round 17.

In the other game, North Melbourne's Luke McDonald has been charged with tripping West Coast's Liam Ryan and can pay a $2000 (down from $3000) fine with an early plea, while Eagle Elijah Hewett can pay a $1000 (down from $1500) fine for careless contact with an umpire.

No other players were sanctioned by the MRO from Sunday's matches.
