AFL greats Garry Lyon and Tim Watson both support moving the AFL Grand Final to Western Australia. But only on the condition that crowds are still banned in Victoria at season's end.

The WA government have announced 30,000 fans can attend games at Optus Stadium starting from this Saturday and this number could be raised to Optus' full capacity of 60,000 on July 18.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Lyon expressed his desire to see the Grand Final played in front of a full house at Optus instead of an empty MCG.

“Under normal circumstances I’m a massive supporter of that (Grand Final played at the MCG),” Lyon said.

“But if Western Australia can have a 60,000-capacity stadium and we (Victoria) can’t … a less than full MCG versus a chock-a-block Optus Stadium in Perth, move it for a year.

“That’s just the easiest thing to do for me.

“They’ll stack it out. If they have the Grand Final over in Perth, irrespective of who it is, the Giants could play the Lions and I reckon they’d jam it full. No-brainer, sell out.”

Tim Watson added: “I support that. If they can’t have a big crowd at the MCG and they can have a full house of 60,000 people over there at Perth, I support that wholeheartedly.”

This may prove to be an issue for the AFL however, with an agreement in place to hold the decider at the MCG until 2057.
