The AFL have faced another weapons security scare this season after a 15-year-old was caught with a knife and fake gun outside of Marvel Stadium on Saturday.
It is the second incident of its kind this season, although in the latest instance, the offender was caught before entering the stadium of the AFL match.
During Carlton and Collingwood's Round 4 clash, two men were found to have entered the venue while possessing firearms. The 21-year-old and 27-year-old were searched after they were escorted for causing issues within the crowd.
The pair were subsequently arrested, with the MCG lamenting the incident as a failure by security personnel who did not "do a thorough follow up search of the patrons after an alert from the entry point screening system."
On Saturday, the teenager allegedly did not have a ticket when trying to enter the venue for the Essendon Bombers and Sydney Swans match during the first quarter. The teenager was then searched by nearby officers, which resulted in the two weapons being found.
A police spokesperson said the knife was "small" and the firearm an imitation. The individual was then issued a caution by police.
The AFL have yet to comment on the incident.
