GWS Rebels small forward Talor Byrne is an unassuming yet combative and hard-working front-half threat for AFL clubs to consider at next month's draft.

Byrne's value proliferated after the last game of the U18s National Championships, where he kicked five goals and showed toughness, an ability to get high up the ground and opportunism around goals, pouncing with great potency on loose balls.

He was touted by GWV Rebels as a player to watch ahead of the season and proved to be a real energiser bunny, averaging 19 disposals and almost a goal per game, splitting his time between the midfield and forward line, with his strength making him a difficult matchup to beat in one-on-one contests up forward and in some ways enabling him to play above his size, and then his deceptive acceleration from stoppage proved difficult to track down when he was in traffic.

In a draft class light on for small forwards, Byrne's blend of strength and power make him an attractive proposition, and he looks a likely second-round prospect.
